Uglytown

By Elton Wildermuth, November 2003

Did you blow in like a leaf from off the highway,
come to hang out in the ugly part of town?
Did you say next time the wind is right you'll fly right out of here?
Well, check me out as long as you're around.
I'm just another cheap hotel in Uglytown:
you can rent me by the hour or the night.
Ain't got no frills, no fancy soap;
the carpet's thin and smells of dope,
but I'm open any time and the price is right.
It's gotta be better than sleeping out on the sidewalk,
keeping warm in the stink coming up from underground.
It's all right if you only want to hide out for a while,
maybe play a little game of lost and found.
I'm just another cheap hotel in Uglytown: (&c)
Did you notice how nobody here is smiling?
The most they'll do is grimace upside down,
but if I'm right and it's just not your style to be that cold,
I could take you someplace warmer than a frown.
I'm just another cheap hotel in Uglytown: (&c)
I'm just another cheap hotel in Uglytown:
you can rent me by the hour or the night.
Ain't got no frills, no fancy soap;
the carpet's thin and smells of dope,
but I'm hoping given time there's a chance you might.
